Winter Finals

Commiserations to our U16 Mixed & Girls Shield teams, our U14 & U12 Girls Shield teams and our U12 District Tangerine team who were eliminated last week, many in the closest of circumstances. It’s a great effort to reach the finals and everyone is really excited by your accomplishments.

Congratulations to our U16 & U12 Mixed Pennant and U14 Mixed District teams who have qualified directly for the Grand Final and will enjoy a week off to prepare.

U12 Girls Shield

Shout out to our girls who were defeated by Waverley 1:0 in a shootout in disappointing circumstances. The premier league level umpires somehow lost track of the shot count and called the game after only four attempts, denying us the opportunity to equalise and send the game into sudden death.

The Club did dispute the result with Hockey Victoria however after deliberation we received an apology and clarification that under the rules there is unfortunately no avenue to dispute or appeal an umpire’s decision during play.

HV have taken on board our suggestion to better prepare umpires in the future and to consider providing a third official at finals venues to assist with shootouts. A lesson for all our Team Managers going forward is to carefully keep track of shootout progress and to inform the umpires of any errors immediately.

U14 Mixed Pennant

Apologies to our U14 Mixed District team who were defeated by LaTrobe 3:2 in a shootout following an abbreviated 15 minute second half. Thankfully our team have a second chance to reach the grand final this week.

After the excitement of getting power connected at Matlock we unfortunately discovered that the electricians had situated the ground lights switch poorly and a spectator inadvertently hit the off button requiring a lengthy delay to recycle the light.

We have asked for the switch to be protected and moved. If this work remains outstanding this week home teams should protect the area with bins and possibly station a friendly supporter there.

U14 Mixed District

Congratulations to our U14 Mixed District team who defeated Maccabi 6:5 to advance to the Grand Final. The fixture required us to accomodate our opposition with a Sunday morning game which was played in freezing hail.

Our players “patiently” waited in the rain while Maccabi delayed up to the maximum time getting their keeper ready and fielded their Team Manager as umpire.

This isn’t against the rules even in finals but we’ve noted with HV that we’d hope for better in the future.

Keep and eye on the newsletters for more details and the senior sections’ junior transition team will be in touch directly when details are firmed up.
